🥩 How SteakMap Curates America’s Best Steakhouses
The best introduction to this website is for me to explain how SteakMap curates America’s Best Steakhouses and why this is essential for steak lovers.
Several years ago, my wife planned a trip to Columbus, OH to celebrate both my birthday and a great sales month at one of our other businesses, Ingram Insurance Group . In preparation, we found a brochure of things to do while in the City. That is where we saw the advertisement for Jeff Ruby’s; prior to this, we’d never heard of the restaurant. We figured it would be just a bit nicer than a LongHorn, maybe even just a locally owned, independent style LongHorn restaurant – I couldn’t have been more wrong.
When I first sat down at Jeff Ruby’s and cut into one of their perfectly aged steaks, it changed my entire perspective on what great steak could be. Since then, I’ve spent years trying to find that same level of craftsmanship (maybe steakmanship?) in every city I visit — searching through thousands of Google listings, sifting through local favorites, national chains, Brazilian steakhouses, and everything else that claimed to be a steakhouse. Even recommendations from other people were hard to sift through as not everyone has the same idea as to what makes a great steak.
That journey led to the creation of SteakMap.com — a national directory built for people who appreciate steak done right. But unlike other restaurant lists or review sites, SteakMap doesn’t rely on random submissions or crowd-sourced data. Every listing is hand-curated based on quality, experience, and commitment to excellence.
Our process starts with research. We analyze menus, photos, and customer reviews to identify restaurants that specialize in dry-aged, wet-aged, or Wagyu steaks — the true markers of steakhouse craftsmanship. Then, we evaluate whether the restaurant demonstrates care in service, presentation, and overall atmosphere.
We are really looking for a robust menu that showcases a true appreciation and presentation of fine steaks. Just having one dry-aged steak or wagyu steak doesn’t cement your place on SteakMap. We’re looking for the chefs who take pride in their sourcing, the service staff who understand the cuts and provide excellent service, and the owners who make steak the centerpiece of the dining experience.
It is my hope that if you just consumed the best steak of your life at a restaurant, it will be from a steakhouse recommended on our site. If it isn’t – we need to talk, ASAP. The nation’s steak scene is constantly evolving and we need your help and participation to make it as accurate and robust as possible.
From small-town chophouses to top fine-dining institutions, each addition to SteakMap is carefully vetted before being included. The goal is simple:
To make it easy for steak lovers to find their next great meal — and for great restaurants to be discovered. Finding the nation’s greatest steak shouldn’t be a time consuming endeavor.
Behind the scenes, SteakMap operates on a growing database of thousands of listings, structured by region, city, and steak style, making it the most detailed steakhouse directory in the country.
This is just the beginning. As the platform grows, we’ll continue refining our selection process, highlighting the best in American dining, and giving true steak craftsmanship the visibility it deserves. That is exactly how SteakMap curates America’s Best Steakhouses.
We envision being a website that creates a community of steak lovers with free flowing steak discourse, reviews, and exclusive steakhouse offers and promotions. Feel free to e-mail me at ryan@steakmap.com with suggestions, recommendations, or just to talk about fine steak!
