Why Ocean Prime made the SteakMap list
The name says seafood, and Ocean Prime delivers on it, but the steak board is the reason this room is on our list — and specifically the fact that it puts three genuinely different kinds of beef side by side at similar prices.
There is conventional Prime: filet mignon at 8oz and 10oz, a 14oz New York strip, a 16oz ribeye and a 22oz bone-in ribeye. There is an 8oz Piedmontese filet — a lean Italian breed carrying markedly less intramuscular fat than Angus, which eats cleaner and more mineral. And there is a 7oz Westholme wagyu filet from Australia at the opposite extreme, deliberately portioned small because it is rich.
Ordering the Piedmontese against the Westholme at one table is about as direct a lesson in beef genetics as a Kansas City menu offers, and the price gap between them is only a few dollars.
The dry-aged strip
The board also carries a 12oz dry-aged New York strip as a standing item rather than a special. Dry-aging is not common in this city outside a handful of kitchens, and holding it permanently means committing the room and the trim loss year-round.
What to expect
Enhancements are a la carte and generous: Oscar style with crab, garlic shrimp scampi, a Maytag blue cheese crust, black garlic butter, truffle butter, au poivre, or a lobster tail. Beyond beef there is a Vande Rose Farms heritage pork chop and a double-bone rack of lamb with roasted garlic thyme jus.
The sides are steakhouse canon done at scale — jalapeño au gratin, smoked gouda tater tots, bacon creamed spinach, black truffle mac and cheese, and a baked lobster mac made with a whole Maine lobster and Tillamook cheddar.
