Why Tony’s made the SteakMap list

There is a live house band playing soft jazz in this dining room every night it is open. Not a weekend act, not a piano in the corner — a resident band. Almost no American steakhouse still carries that overhead, and it is the reason Tony’s feels like a different era of restaurant.

What it is

Tony’s is an owner-run steak and seafood room at 110 West Washington Street in downtown Indianapolis, a block from the Circle and walking distance from the theaters and the convention center. Tony Ricci owns it and it carries his name, which in practice usually means someone is watching the floor.

It has been named one of the most romantic restaurants in the country and has placed in OpenTable’s top 100 on diner reviews — both outside honors rather than self-declared ones.

Practical notes

The bar opens at 4pm daily. Dinner runs 5–9pm Sunday through Thursday and 5–10pm Friday and Saturday. Valet parking is available, which matters more than it sounds downtown on an event night — Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Lucas Oil Stadium are both close enough to make street parking a problem.

Given the jazz and the room, this is a book-ahead restaurant for anniversaries and closing dinners rather than a walk-in.
