Why Char made the SteakMap list
Char serves dry-aged prime beef and builds itself explicitly as a New York–style steakhouse — which, forty-five minutes down the shore from Manhattan, is a claim you have to actually back up.
The New York style means something specific: prime beef, dry-aged, cooked hard under extreme heat, served without much on the plate, in a room with white tablecloths and a serious bar. Char runs that template rather than a Jersey-shore seafood house that happens to sell steak.
The seafood
That said, the location earns its due. Seafood is delivered fresh daily, which on this stretch of the Jersey coast is less of a boast than a baseline — Red Bank sits on the Navesink, minutes from the water.
Red Bank
The restaurant is at 33 Broad Street, on the main run through downtown Red Bank — a genuinely walkable stretch of restaurants, the Count Basie Center and independent shops. It is a dinner-and-a-show address more than a business one.
Char runs a small New Jersey group with sibling restaurants in Raritan and Scotch Plains, so the beef program is shared across the three.
Prices
Char does not publish a machine-readable priced menu for the Red Bank room, so SteakMap has no verified cuts, weights or prices to quote. The dry-aging and prime grade are the restaurant’s own stated claims; specific aging durations are not published, so we quote none.
