Why the Eldo made the SteakMap list
A neighborhood gastropub that ages its beef 29 to 31 days and prints the range on the menu is doing something almost no bar does. Most restaurants at this price serve beef straight from the box.
The Eldo runs Choice Angus rather than Prime and is upfront about that too. Choice aged a month eats better than ungraded Prime served fresh, and the honesty about both grade and aging window is the reason this place is here.
The board
The ribeye is the straightforward order — Choice Angus, aged 29 to 31 days, $42.99. The filet mignon is $39.99.
The one to actually order is The Wellington: the aged Choice Angus filet wrapped in puff pastry with mushroom duxelle, $47.99. Beef Wellington is a genuinely difficult dish that most kitchens have abandoned, and finding it in a Long Beach gastropub for under fifty dollars is a small anomaly.
The surf and turf pairs the aged ribeye with tiger prawns at $54.99.
The menu states the aging window but not the method, so SteakMap makes no claim about whether it is dry or wet aged.
South African, and 1957
The building opened in 1957 as the Eldorado and has been a Long Beach fixture for more than sixty years. South African owner Trevor Nettmann took it over in 2012 and restored it rather than gutting it, adding South African dishes alongside the American menu.
It bills itself as an American and South African family-friendly gastropub, with craft cocktails and local beer. That is an unusual combination and it is the reason the room does not feel like anywhere else on this list.
Menu prices
As published on the Eldo’s menu, August 2026: surf and turf $54.99, The Wellington $47.99, ribeye $42.99, filet mignon $39.99.
